It's Taking off . . .
DATE: 13 Mar 2007, 9:33 am / MOOD: Full of life

It's begun, it's moving, and now wow, this is really starting to take off! I've actually made some friends on here already. Apart from classes, it's hard to actually meet other dancers. When you're out social dancing, you're doing just that, social dancing, and not talking (or writing).

Anyway, as some of you know, I recently stopped teaching my classes, and that's been difficult. I really enjoyed those classes. They were big, exciting, and a lot of fun for me to teach. It wasn't my choice - but the ballroom I had been at for years, and which had been in existence for over 30 years, had its rent raised. This is a common story in San Francisco. They closed their doors, and I'm without a place to teach . . .

You'd think that wouldn't be an insurmountable problem, and perhaps not, but in San Francisco, dance Space is at a premium. My classes are typically 100+ people (and that's the way I enjoy them most), so I really want a large space. Of course, I also want a beautiful hardwood floor, mirrors, stellar sound system, and easy parking! Now you can tell why it's a hard, if not impossible dream, in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's only a matter of time though, until I find that place to continue the classes. Positive thinking, ain't that "the secret"?

This has been a year of change so far. My classes have closed, and now my 3 year old SalsaCrazy Canvas Party, http://www.CanvasParty.com, is also closing down, due to similar circumstances (the overall business where we threw the party is closing). So, another move, and another change . . .

Personally, I love it. I mean it! I love change. So often, when in comfortable situations, you'll let it go on forever. That's not really what I'm about. I enjoy challenges. I enjoy change, even when it's thrust upon me, and yes, even when it means giving up very successful events, such as my classes and parties. The only downside, and it is significant, is I feel a responsibility to people whom have attended these events or classes to continue them, or at least offer other avenues so they can keep enjoying themselves in dance - and I suppose that's what will drive me to find the next big thing, be it a space for my classes, or an amazing place to do a party.

Strangely though, I am thankful for being forced into change. It forces me out of my comfort zone, and makes me adapt to life. It forces me into an active role in my life, and allows me to truly live. It's a positive thing, wrapped in a negative set of circumstances. I choose to view it in a positive light, and I'm certain it will bring only greater satisfaction to me, and to those whom are waiting for me to get another great class or party started.

Until then, we've got this site! My social outlet for the time being, and my way to meet other dancers, teachers, and promoters with similar interests and love of dance, in all it's many forms.

Until we meet again, Keep Dancing, and Keep it Crazy!
